Pilates Chair Modifications To Increase and Decrease Range of Motion

Most Pilates chairs come at a standard height. Some models, such as the Balanced Body Combo Chair are a bit taller, but sometimes you need to adjust the equipment for a particular client or movement need.

Shorten The Range of The Pedal

Many students have a hard time keeping their sagittal alignment during exercises like Footwork on the Chair. Limiting the range of motion helps the student control the movement. It can make all the difference in keeping good alignment.

In this case, a pedal stopper can come to the rescue! Don't have a pedal stopper? You're out of luck! Just kidding... a block or a moon box also works really well.

Adjusting The Chair For Tall Clients

Perhaps you are working with an especially tall client? Try placing the moon box on top of the chair to increase the range of motion.

In this video, we'll take a look at how you can use a stopper, yoga block, and moon box to increase or decrease the range of motion on the Chair according to what you or your student needs.

I'd love to hear from you: Have you found other ways to modify the chair so it fits you better? I'd love to hear them. Shoot me an email.
